SLP estimations by CMA! [2]

Hi all,

Finally I’ve finished the analysis… the fact that the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) ignored all the real-time observations during GONI.

SLP observations and CMA estimations during GONI (0907)

SLP observations and CMA estimations during GONI (0907)

Please not that the colourful lines DO NOT represent the minimum SLP near the centre of GONI (…as GONI DID NOT pass over all the towns I listed).

Well…

1/ You can see in the early hours of 5/8, when GONI was moving towards Shangchuan Dao, CMA kept on saying that the minimum SLP was 990 hPa. Actually Shangchuan Dao reported 981.7 hPa at 6am.

2/At the night of 6/8… GONI passed close to Dianbai, and the SLP reported was below 988 hPa, but CMA made it 995.

3/ Later Xuwen also recorded SLP lower than 988 hPa, but CMA raised the estimation further to 998… 10 hPa difference!

4/ At last, CMA corrected their mistakes. As they re-upgraded GONI into a TS, they lowered the SLP estimation to 985 hPa at the same time.

Even JMA, CWB, KMA, HKO…  had much better estimations during the incident…
