Typhoon MERANTI (T1614/16W/FerdiePH) continues to strengthen… The CDO deepened further… The eye became clear and it is now a small WMG eye surrounded by a CMG ring… This corresponds to a DT of 7.5… Latest ADT Raw T# was 7.2 at 11:00 UTC…

Maximum sustained wind speed around the centre is estimated to be about 195 km/h (105 kts) (10-min)… MERANTI should be able to intensify further over the warm Philippine Sea in the next 24 hours…

MERANTI is forecast to move west-northwest across the Luzon Strait… It will hit Batanes directly tomorrow evening / on Wednesday morning… The chance of landfall over Luzon is not high…

Friends in northern Philippines should also be prepared for TS conditions… with strong winds and heavy rain… Take all necessary precautions IMMEDIATELY if you are in Batanes or along the northern coast of Luzon…
