Alert Status will be "Red" when Hong Kong is under tropical cyclone attack

The Red Alert has 3 categories - One (I), Two (II) and Three (III)

The Red Alert will be categorized to "One" when:

  • Gusts in Hong Kong, which are caused by tropical cyclone, are going to reach or have reached 63 km/h

The Red Alert will be categorized to "Two" when:

  • Gusts in Hong Kong, which are caused by tropical cyclone, are going to reach or have reached 118 km/h

The Red Alert will be categorize to "Three" when:

  • Gusts in Hong Kong, which are caused by tropical cyclone, are going to reach or have reached 178 km/h

Recommended Actions:

  • Precautions against losses should be completed as soon as possible

Remarks:

  • When the alert status is Red, alert advisories will be issued at any time when necessary
Red (Category II)
Red (Category I)
Yellow

Alert Status will be "Yellow" when:

  1. There is an elevated risk that Hong Kong will be affected by a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours, or
  2. Gusts in Hong Kong, which are caused by tropical cyclone, have reached 41 km/h

Recommended Actions:

  • Check the latest alert advisory and tropical cyclone advisory for tropical cyclone information, and take suitable precautions to prevent losses

Remarks:

  • When the alert status is Yellow, at least one alert advisory will be issued a day
Green

Alert Status will be "Green" when:

  • Hong Kong may be affected by a tropical cyclone in the coming future

Recommended Actions:

  • Check the latest alert advisory and tropical cyclone advisory for tropical cyclone information

Remarks:

  • When the alert status is Green, at least one alert advisory will be issued a day
Blue

Alert Status will be "Blue" when:

  • No tropical cyclone is expected to affect Hong Kong

  • Read tropical watches for latest information
